    Job Responsibilities

    The main areas of responsibility of the researcher will include the following:

    Research and Knowledge (75% of time required)

    • Conducting legal research and analysis of financial regulatory framework, specifically issues related to policy and governance (laws and regulation, government reform, state and non-state agencies relationship) related with ecological sustainable development
    • Support the development of governance strategy for sustainable financial mechanism implementation in the sub-national level, designed to achieve both sectoral and governance-related outcomes
    • Preparing and co-authoring legal memo, legal drafting, policy review/recommendation, knowledge products and other communication documents (e.g., reports, briefs, data products, tools, blog, white paper, position paper, memo policy brief, case study, opinion editorial, presentation, etc.)

    Program Management & Stakeholder Engagement (25% of time required)

    • Support the One Map Initiative program related to improving sustainable financial development through effective fiscal transfer mechanism
    • Coordinate with associated managers, researchers, partners, and regional teams related to these projects and initiatives;
    • Support the documentation of progress from the activities, and the development of project documents, presentations, reports, and proposals.

    Deliverables

    1. An analysis of regulatory framework related with sustainable development on various kind of existing financial mechanism in Indonesia and financial modelling for West Papua using endowment/trust fund
    2. Research manuscript for scientific and/or WRI peer-reviewed publications (e.g., issue brief, working paper) on endowment/trust fund for sustainable development in West Papua
    3. Research documentations, data analysis, reports, and presentation materials as necessary to support the completion of knowledge products including but not limited to research results for development interventions, policy scenarios, and other assessments

    Job Qualifications

    • Legally able to work in Indonesia;
    • A master’s degree law with keen interest in science.
    • Minimum 5 (five) years research experience in relevant field;
    • A good understanding of Indonesia’s legal framework, especially on land-based sector particularly forestry, peatland and plantation, a sustainable development and sustainable financing issues;
    • Strong inter-personal skills, good sense of humour, and experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds;
    • Excellent analytical skill, well organized and maintain high attention to details;
    • Excellent communication and writing skill both bahasa and english;
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as a team player; and
    • Ability to travel when needed.

    Performance Standard

    • Timely and satisfactory delivery of program management and research activities;
    • Effective team work and communication;
    • Must be capable of setting priorities;
    • Ability to work well with internal and external participants is essential.

    Duration

    This opportunity is available for Indonesian citizens who are students in their 5th semester in any university throughout Indonesia, have a minimum  GPA 2.75, and are English literate.

    Opportunities are open for all degree programs.

    This internship program is one part of the overall United States – Indonesia partnership that strengthens people-to-people ties with Indonesia’s student population. The program will start on June 21, 2021.

    • Public Affairs Section (PAS) – Jakarta
      The Public Affairs Section helps the Embassy engage with the Indonesian public either in-person or through digital platforms to inform, educate and influence opinions about U.S. foreign policy issues.  Our major areas of focus are cultural diplomacy, media outreach, exchange programs, English education and study abroad to the United States.Intern Projects/Responsibilities:
      The intern will work on creating content for the Embassy’s various social media platforms. Products will include infographics, short videos, animation and short write-ups for social media. The intern is expected to have access to and be proficient with video editing and photo editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, etc.
    • Political Section (POL) – Jakarta
      The Political Section is responsible for covering and reporting on all political development which focuses on U.S.-Indonesia bilateral relations, Indonesian domestic politics and social development. The section welcomes applications from currently enrolled university students in Indonesia for its new volunteer student internship program. This internship program is one part of the overall United States – Indonesia partnership that strengthens people-to-people ties with Indonesia’s student population. This is an unpaid program; no compensation and benefits are offered. Intern Projects/Responsibilities:

      • Review daily media reports and flag key stories
      • Translate articles from local media sources for Political Section staff
      • Research on domestic politics and social developments
      • Attend and report in English on local events
      • Accompany Political Section staff to outside meetings and interpret as needed
    • Customer Service Center (CSC) – Jakarta
      The Customer Service Center (CSC) is a one-stop-shop service center where U.S. Mission personnel can receive services provided by Management. CSC answers inquiries either with direct action or by coordinating a solution with internal and external service providers.
      Intern Projects/Responsibilities:

      • Receive visitors to the CSC and answers general inquiries about procedures, regulations and post policies. Answer phone calls and respond to incoming e-mails
      • Provide administrative support for check-in/checkout process of employees
      • Submit CSC requests on behalf of customers
      • Liaise with vendors (First Media, Telkomsel, potable water, cooking gas) to resolve customers’ inquiries
      • Provide first tier IT support (login issues, mobile device setup and support, etc.)
      • Update the CSC Sharepoint/Extranet site, CSC Newcomer’s booklet, and other CSC informational materials
    • USAID Indonesia / Development Outreach and Communications (DOC) – Jakarta
      USAID/PRO/DOC welcomes currently enrolled university students in Indonesia for its volunteer student internship program. This internship program is one part of the overall United States – Indonesia partnership that strengthens people-to-people ties with Indonesia’s student population. This is an unpaid program; no compensation and benefits are offered. The intern will be provided with a certificate and a performance evaluation at the end of the program. The intern will be entitled to a letter of recommendation from her primary supervisor pending satisfactory performance.
      Purpose:

      • Interns will support the DOC team’s work within the Program Office to inform in-country audiences of the work of USAID, as required by the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.
      • DOC team will offer knowledge and experience in the arena of international development and facilitate professional development opportunities as well as networking with American and local USG employees.

    Objectives:

      • Help promote U.S. development programs and impact in Indonesia through earned media (radio, TV, newspapers), social media, events and public relation campaigns.
      • Research and develop public information products including, fact sheets, social media content, graphics, and videos.
    • Political/Economic Section (POL / Econ) – Surabaya
      • This position is for currently enrolled college students with an interest in political science, that also possess an understanding of political and economic conditions in eastern Indonesia. This position is an unpaid internship, where the intern will learn and work with the Political and Economic (P/E) staff at the U.S. Consulate General Surabaya.
      • The intern will be responsible for assisting the Pol/Econ section of the U.S. Consulate General in Surabaya to organize political and economic programs and meetings throughout the Consular district. The intern will work with the Pol/Econ Assistants to collect data on economic and political conditions in eastern Indonesia, support political and economic section meetings, draft press summaries on economic and political topics, and engage in the conduct of economic and political outreach.
    • Public Affairs Section (PAS) – Surabaya (2 Positions)
      We conduct the people-to-people outreach to include media, to advance U.S. foreign policy in eastern Indonesia.
      Intern Projects/Responsibilities:

      • Intern 1:  Operate Livestream software. PAS Surabaya is conducting outreach activities through virtual platforms and social media.  We are searching for an intern who can help coordinate livestreaming programs in real time across multiple platforms using software such as OBS and Xsplit.
      • Intern 2:  Sign Language Translation and Live Captioning: We are looking for someone who can provide sign language translation/Live captioning for our outreach activities that would help expand our reach to audiences who are hearing impaired.
