WRI Indonesia hosted the secretariat of Indonesia’s National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP), as part of the Global Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP) which initiated by the World Economic Forum (WEF), as a bold neutral platform responsible for coordinating and facilitating the public-private partnerships working to free the world from plastic waste and pollution. The initiative aims to tackle one of the most difficult and pressing challenges facing our global commons – plastics pollution – in particular the plastic pollution of rivers, deltas and the ocean. The Government of Indonesia has made significant step by committing to reduce plastics pollution to the ocean by 70% by 2025. GPAP is supporting Indonesia to reduce plastic pollution to the ocean through National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP). The partnership brings together top leaders from government, private sectors and civil society organizations to contribute to achieving national ocean plastic reduction target.

The secretariat of Indonesia’s National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP), hosted at the World Resources Institute (WRI) Indonesia is looking for a Program Intern to assist the development of members commitment and progress database and support day-to-day activities of the NPAP Secretariat. The role will be based in Indonesia. This position will report to the NPAP Engagement Specialist and coordinate closely with NPAP team at WRI Indonesia and GPAP team at the World Economic Forum.

General Internship Roles

  • Staying up to date on best practices and emerging issues in marine plastic pollution
  • Assist the development of NPAP members commitment and progress database
  • Assist in organizing events and meetings of NPAP secretariat
  • Support day-to-day activities of NPAP Secretariat
  • The intern is expected to work together with the NPAP Secretariat and WRI communication team to develop NPAP communication products (e.g., newsletter, outreach emails)

Learning Outcomes

  1. Broader knowledge on the marine plastic pollution issue especially on the monitoring system
  2. Enhance stakeholder engagement skill
  3. Enhancing communication skill to write and/or create a compelling content that demonstrate a pre-checked fact and storytelling technique for NPAP communication products

Qualifications

  • Fresh graduates or university students, preferably in the fields of public policy, environmental management/engineering, marine science, natural resource management, or a related field from a reputable institution required.
  • Direct hands-on experience in conducting desk and field research, writing reviews and reports related to topics mentioned above.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with universities, local government and CSOs.
  • Strong inter-personal skills, working with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • High attention to details, well organized, and strong analytical skills.
  • Strong team player with ability to work across institutional departments/programs.
  • Strong communication and writing and research skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as a team player.
  • High integrity, passion for sustainable development, and good sense of humor preferred.
  • Professional fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
