Duties and Responsibilities
Within the limits of delegated authority, and under the general supervision of the UNDSS Chief Security Adviser (CSA) or the Deputy Security Adviser (DSA), the Local Security Associate (Information Management) at SC-6 level is responsible for the following.
- The management of information relevant to security, including collection, collation, analysis and dissemination, to be used as a decision-making and planning tool by the UNDSS Indonesia to enhance the safety and security of UN personnel, assets and operations in the country.
- Under the direction of the CSA/DSA support the Crisis Management Team in crisis situations by providing timely, accurate and predictive analysis of emergency and crisis situations.
- Acts as a focal point for security information flow; prepares and submits reports and initial security analysis to the CSA or DSA or FSCOs on security threats and trends in the area of responsibility, focusing on the achievement of the following result:
- Develop monthly safety and security analysis report
- Develop Weekly Security Snapshot and Weekly Situation Report
- Compile and circulate Daily Situation Report
- Monitoring (real-time) incidents at the UNDSS safety and security incidents database and provide rapid assessment
- Assist in developing SMT / ASFP security briefing (Qualitative and quantitative analysis)
- Review Country Briefing Notes (CBN) and SG report produced by colleagues
- Maintains continuous awareness of prevailing local security conditions, identifies potential threats and advises UN staff, project personnel and eligible dependents to follow appropriate preventive steps.
- Media Watch, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
Monitor news reports from a variety of sources (e.g.: TV, print media, online media, social media platforms etc) that may have impact on UNSMS personnel and operations in the country or the region. - Report immediately to concerned UNDSS personnel for their appropriate actions of any significant safety and security incidents.
The LSA will assist in maintaining database for safety and security SOPs and other security information. This includes maintaining any UNDSS digital database. - Obtains and studies all security policy promulgated by the UNDSS HQ through CSA/DSA.
- Performs other duties as required by CSA/DSA.
Required Skills and Experience
- Education:
A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience / An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) - Experience:
Experience in the analysis of either security, crime or terrorism and counterterrorism
Experience in information analysis is desirable.
Experience in the preparation of analytical statistical reports is desirable. - Language Requirements:
All security communications within the UN are carried out in English, therefore a high standard of spoken English is required.
The post also includes translating written documents from Bahasa Indonesia-English-Indonesia.
The LSA could be asked to draft minutes of security meetings (SMT, ASFP and others) if required.
